Chritmas Crafts and Lights
This year we made graham cracker houses. We also made sugar cookies with the help of daycare kiddos.
We headed to town to see the light parade. We arrived early to then learn that the parade would be delayed 1 1/2 hours later. So off to dinner we went. Wouldn't you know, as soon as we got our drinks, the parade started. Phooey! So we watched from our table in the warmth and darted out at the end to see Santa pass by. After dealing with traffic, we made way to a local hotel to check out there decorations. A few pics were in order and of course, play time on the toys.

Catching Up
Thanksgiving this year was at our house since Clif had to nap and work that night. So there was no time to travel this year. I cooked the turkey and fixings this year and my folks came up to join us. Klara must have had too much turkey, we found her asleep on the arm of the couch. We also took the time to celebrate my mom's b-day.

Dexter
Sadly, we lost Dexter on Nov 30th. We knew he was sick and we were so happy to have had him this long. He was born July 8, 2001 and since we knew the breeders, they gave us first pick. We brought him home at 6 weeks old to our other dog, Blu. They were the best of pals. As time went on, Dexter moved with Clif and I around to different homes, saw 2 beautiful babies be born and grow up and then introduced to our latest puppy, Daisy. His life was full...he enjoyed many trips to Phx where he loved the warm weather, and he was very good about walking on a leash (no pulling). At the end, it was much harder than expected to say good-bye...but the dr said his tummy had twisted. Surgery might have been possible, but he was pretty bad by then and the cost was too much. Clif stayed home with the kids and they all knew when they said good-bye...that would be it. He is missed and the old habits are hard to break. We still come home and expect him to jump and slobber on us when we enter the door. Or to see him waiting by the window to come in. A great dog and the breed is highly recommended. We know he is in heaven reuniting with Blu and his other dog friends. The kids and I are happy to know that Jesus is throwing the ball for him again. Love ya D!!
Catching Up...still
Eagle watching: We went to town to learn more about eagles. There were a few on site to see up close. Then we went out to the nearby lake where we were Bald Eagle Watching. It was a very cold day and didn't stay as long as we would have liked, but we did get to see several of the eagles flying overhead.
Our community has an annual Thanksgiving dinner for all the local churches. Each church is responsible for bringing a set dish to share and then our church buys all the turkeys. We all gather at a local church camp in their gorgeous dining hall to sing, eat and fellowship together. All the churches sign up also to help with the set up and clean up. This year, our church was selected to lead worship on the stage. Wow! What an honor. We had a blast!

Beds and Rewards
Kaleb finally got a new bed. He had been sleeping on a hand-me-down bed that felt like a sofa bed....very uncomfortable. He is now in a twin and his room looks so much bigger!! Then we have Klara, she has been coming to my bed at night and when I kick her out, Clif has been finding her curled up in the living room.
The last pic is of the kids reward charts. I've been working really hard with Kaleb on his reading. He gets a sticker for every book he reads, as many as he wants per day but no less than one. Today he finished filling his chart and got a pizza hut coupon for his very own pizza. Klara had been working on a chart as well. She is working very hard on NOT sucking her fingers. So without complaining, she wears a sock on her hand when she sleeps and yucky cream during the day as reminders to not suck on those fingers. When she does good, she gets a sticker and if I catch her sucking then she removes a sticker from her chart. Her reward is a Cinderella doll that she proudly earned today as well. I'll keep both reward charts going since I've seen a huge success with their earned rewards. I'm very proud of them both!!

Wolf Creek Pass
We spent the night in SW Colorado and the next morning we headed over one last mountain pass. I'm sooo glad we got to see it during the day. The colors were awesome! At the top of the pass we were treated to snow.
We stopped at a few scenic overlooks and the view was worth it. Sadly, it was time to go home. Clif got us thru the reservation as fast as we could and then quickly home. Once home we unloaded the car, reload for 1 more overnight as we headed back down to Phx to get the doggies. We were glad to see our pups again, but sure missed our vacation. The kids still love looking back with fond memories and can't wait until their next vacation. They both did excellent in the car for so long and we only had to put out a few fires. Otherwise, they got along really well. So well, that I would love to take another vacation with them now.

We left Chicago and a few days later we were in Colorado Springs. Yes, we still want to move there...but we went up to Pikes Peak and drove to the top. All 3 of my family members were getting high altitude sickness so we didn't stay very long up there. It was a bit icy in places and oh so cold. We drove half way back down and pulled over for a picnic lunch in a nice area. Then made our way out and back on the road. The colors on the trees were in high color and made for a beautiful drive thru all sorts of mountains.

Kuipers' Farm Day 2
On Monday we went to the farm again and this time we were able to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa and other extended family. Clif's Aunt and Uncle are the owners of the farm and very busy, so we didn't get to visit with them as much as we would have liked. However, we knew it was their busy time and so we figured they would be busy. But Clif's grandparents were off that day and spent time with us. We toured the farm with a few golf carts and the quad.
Grandpa took all of us on a tractor ride and daddy showed the kids (and I) how to blow air across a blade of grass to make it whistle. What a great time we had....I think this was the best part of our whole vacation. Great fun and extra great company!

After Navy Pier we took the bus to Willis Tower....formally known as Sears Tower. We took the 90 second trip to the 103 floor to look out the SkyDeck. The views were great and they were exceptional from the SkyLedge. There are 4 glass slide outs that you can walk onto and then look straight down. Dare devil Klara just trotted out there...Kaleb was quite hesitant to go out and needed some prodding...I was very cautious and Clif was not bothered by it. It was a very odd feeling.
Then it is only 60 seconds to go back to the ground and yes, we did it....we bought the souvenir picture at a 300% mark up....but it was a great pic of the 4 of us standing on the ledge together with Kaleb's death grip on my hand.

Navy Pier
We took a day and went into the downtown area. We took the train in and caught the bus to Navy Pier. The morning was COLD!! We thought about a tour on the lake, but way too much wind for us. I didn't want to spend so much money to find out if the kids get sea sick or not due to the waves. Maybe another time. Along the pier is a shopping mall for tourists. We of course spent time there as well. Then we went to the rides area. We rode the very tall ferris wheel and a few other rides. Then back on the bus and headed to Willis Tower.

Off To The Farm
Police Station
Next stop, Chicago. We were able to visit some family on Clif's side....Aunt and Uncle that I've never met and had been a long time since Clif had seen them. We had a wonderful visit with them. Then we took a tour of the police station and jail. Uncle Paul gave us a huge tour and we learned tons.
Oh, mug shots too...but Clif wasn't supposed to laugh.

Inside the arch area was a museum. We spent some time there and the kids wanted pics by different things....I won't bore you with all of those. By the time we were getting ready to go, I wanted the pic of someone holding the arch. I'm surprised they turned out this good because everyone was overly hungry and you know what that means in this family.
However, I thought these came out pretty good.

Vacation...Part 1
I finally wanted to share some photos from our big vacation to Chicago. However, it was hard to narrow down my selection...so I've tried to make a collage and transfer it to blogger. So we'll see how it goes. I hope the pics are not too small to see. We started our trip with a quick trip to Phx to drop off both doggies for their 2 week vacation with my folks. Then we headed out. Our first big stop was at Meramec Caverns. The kids loved the chance to walk in "a cave".

A Few Recent Pics
Look what Kaleb just did!!! Tooth #2 is gone! He got a little help from me. I really wanted that tooth out before we leave for vacation. Mainly so the "toothfairy" won't lose it. He's holding his blue tin where the tooth is and in the morning he found 6 quarters. No signs now of any future wiggly teeth.
What I pulled from the garden in a day. Not a bad return. I currently have at least 5 butternut squash growing too!
Clif took this pic of the dogs. They sure are good friends.
The kids and I went to church for the clean up day. I was the only working female and they were the only kids. It was good for them to do and they worked pretty hard. We had a nice lunch and got to take home all the leftovers for helping out. I recorded this for their homeschool activities. We are super proud of them.

Wood Cutting
Well, out to the woods we went on Sat and again today, Mon, to get wood for this winter. The two boys also went on Friday. Results: Friday= a few pieces.....Sat+ my nagging = 1/2 a trailer. But today= a almost full trailer. Maybe 1/4 of a cord by now.
The kids had a blast. Kaleb loved wearing his orange ear plugs...Klara didn't so usually stayed back. They did pretty good on Sat, but by Mon, mom had food. Always seems to make life better. Kaleb was a HUGE help today. Klara sure tried hard. See her bow and arrow?
Here she is helping load the trailer as Kaleb poses for a pic.
